Why are accident or other details missing?

CARFAX aggregates information from over 139,000 active sources, including police departments, DMVs, auto auctions, and service shops. However, we can only report information that is shared with us.
Common reasons why an event (like an accident or service) might not appear on a report:
- Private Repairs: If a vehicle owner paid for a repair out-of-pocket and did not submit an insurance claim or use a reporting service shop, the repair will not be on file.
- Reporting Timeframes: Data providers upload records on different schedules (weekly, monthly, or quarterly). A recent event might not have been uploaded yet.
- Non-Reporting Entities: Some local police agencies or repair facilities do not report data to CARFAX.
If you have proof of a missing service event, you can add it manually to your personal dashboard in CARFAX Car Care for tracking purposes, though manual entries will not display on public vehicle history reports.
